My Canon ip7250 has just died, and to be honest, it cost me £45 from Amazon in 2017, so I have had my moneys worth. I now find myself looking for a new printer and having looked at my previous uses, I very rarely print colour, so was looking at a possible B&W Laser Printer.

I am also limited on space as the printer will be in a cupboard. Looking at 2 models, the HP Laserjet Pro 4002DW and the Brother HL-L2445DW look like they are decent enough but I welcome thoughts from all those that use Laser Printers.

I am also open to other suggestions.

My last two printers were Brothers, the first monochrome and the new one color (the price difference just didn’t matter much anymore). My only complaint about the color Brothers is it has no Ethernet port; it connects to my home WIFI just fine, but about 1 time in 5 a print won’t go thru, “Can’t Find Printer”, and I have to cycle the power to my router to reconnect it. Don’t know if that’s a printer issue or a router issue, but my computers/tablet/phone never do that…

I would avoid HP. They are buggy machines that don’t like connecting via wifi and are always offline when you need them. Plus, HP tries to trick you into subscribing to an ink/toner and paper supply plan that is definitely NOT a good deal.

I have a laserjet and recommend them despite being more expensive than most inkjets. But the toner can last in your machine for a couple of years without clogging like ink can. And the prints are archival.

A few say avoid HP. I must admit, I hated them years ago when they had big expensive cartridges. I may go for the Brother for my main printing and get a cheaper Canon for the odd page that the family may need to print in colour.

Go with Brother.

If you only need to print color occasionally, and depending on what it is, you might be able to take the files to a bricks-and-mortar office supplies store and have them print it for you. This could easily be cheaper than buying a color printer with pricey ink cartridges, that are dried out by the time you use them.

There may even be a local print shop that does small jobs. Kwik Kopy?

Or consider a multi-purpose store like The UPS Store.
