I have a printer that is not connected to a network, but is connected to a windows computer. Is there any way to access the smb sharing network through printer setup utility so I can print from my computer and bypass the windows machine?
Have you tried it? Does anything show up when you go into the IP Printer set up on Printer Setup Utility? I don't think you can. You probably have to set it up through a network.
The PC is hosting the printer via SMB so you can't really bypass it as such. I'm not sure what you're wanting, sorry. Are you wanting to be able to turn the PC off and still print from your Mac? If so, you might want to look into getting a network printing hub. This will basically connect onto your network and leave a port for the printer which should make it accessibly by all the computers at all times the network is running.
