Printer troubleshooting

I am having a frustrating time hooking up my iBook to a printer.

I am running an iBook G4 with Tiger (10.4.11), and I have attempted to hook up to both an hp deskjet 3650 and a Lexmark 1400 series WiFi printer. The trouble I am having is my iBook seems to recognize both of these printers and will allow me to print test pages, but it will not let me print from any applications (such as Pages, Word, Safari).

Has anyone encountered this problem or have any idea how to address it?

Sorry for piggybacking!

I cant get my HP Laserjet 1000 to work at all. I tried gutenprint. The printer works great and I hate to have to get a new one just because I switched to Mac. Any suggestions?

Need more info

Hi -

Do I assume both of you have connected your printers directly to
your Mac (i.e., not wireless)?

And you say you can do a test page, but the apps don't respond.
Have you selected the printer as a default?

Did you follow the Printer Set-up Assistant?

I had trouble with Leopard recognizing my aging HP LaserJet 1200
that is on my network wirelessly. The Gutenprint driver fixed that,
fortunately.

Please post the steps you took to get to this point - maybe something
is wrong or missing.
