printer with imac? help and advice needed!

hi, i have recently bought a imac 20" and have plugged a canon pixma ip4200 into the usb .
it didn't need a driver installing as it said it had them on already.

a) does any one know how to get my windows partition to print to the printer

and
b) why does the printer say there s now power when it is still plugged in and the power is on. if i remove and re insert the lead into the usb then it works.
