printer won't connect

I just bought a Brother 7480W, and I'm trying to connect it to my wireless network. I've tried calling Brother, they tell me to find out what type encryption I have. I have an AirportExtreme, A1034 from 2005. The password for a computer to connect to the network is 8 letters long. According to AirPort Utility, there is an AirPort Extreme Password, 7 characters, I think I can guess it. And, under the Wireless tab in AirPort Utility, it says the Wireless Security is WEP 40 bit. I have inadvertently changed the Wireless Password (I hope I didn't mess up anything else) that is 10 characters long. The printer isn't happy with any of these passwords; sometimes it responds "connection ng" (which the Brother manual claims means it didn't work) and sometimes "& OK," which isn't defined anywhere that I can find. I have repeatedly reset the printer to factory settings and tried again, but I can't get it to connect. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
