If you are having problems printing to HP and other printers who have PPC-based drivers (I was with a Epson PictureMate and an HP 7100 series AIO), then there is a possible workaround. The issue apparently stems from old PPC apps (like MS-Office, etc.) automatically envoking Rosetta to run, and in that situation, printer functions appear to work fine. However, in the universal apps, running native, weird things happen, including driver functionality unavailable, errors, bombs, etc. One symptom is that a line is sometimes drawn through the special functions under the print menu that are driver-specific. I noticed this not only with iPhoto, but also with Preview in trying to print out a PDF.

The workaround, if there's no native driver, is to force the universal application to invoke Rosetta. Select the app icon, and go to "get info" and click the "open using Rosetta" checkbox. The next time the app runs, the driver stuff will be available. This is apparently also important if you are using printer sharing remotely on a PPC-based Mac - lots of apparent problems doing that, some of which this work-around might help with.

I know this is a pain, it defeats the fast execution of native apps, but until the printer world (particularly HP) gets its act together for all their products, it may be necessary. Other options, like uninstalling the AIO drivers and using the "print only" native drivers in intel Macs, are possible too, but I need the extra functions and the reliability of the old drivers. Note that Epson is getting their drivers out (picturemate), but not all may be available. Other printer vendors will eventually follow suit.
