Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decent printer / scanner combo that's compatible with this?

Almost bought a Canon G2010 yesterday but it says on the box does not support Mac???

Thanks.

I've been using many different Canon Pixma series printers on Mac for years without issue. That particular model does not support Mac. At least you made sure before you bought it.

Yeah so have i, first i've heard about something like this, for brands not to support Mac makes little sense to me....

Thanks for the replies about Brother printers guys - much appreciated.

Any printer with AirPrint should be fine. I have a Canon i-sensys MF735cx … and I just use it over AirPrint from my MacBook, iPhone and iPad. Never installed any driver on one of these.

since some years do use ecotank printer, mine is compatible mac osx 10.5+ upwards.
only powerpc is not supported. good printer, print quality is decent. newer ecotank printers are better since they have pigmented ink (most models)

Many people here will recommend Brother printers.

Brother printers are great although they sometimes don't update their software for older models. Had to throw out a perfectly good P-Touch printer as they didn't update their software for the M1. Since this is a specialized printer that requires specific Brother software this experience may not apply to regular printers that can use generic drivers.

Used for years a black and laser Brother printer which with no problems. Gave it away when needed a fax/printer/scanner combo unit.

How do you want to connect your printer - hardwired or wirelessly?

Replaced 2 or 3 cheap print/fax/scanner inkjet units when they failed. This was with very few page cycles, only a few pages a month. Vendors make them cheap so they can sell you expensive ink cartridges. Upgraded to a more expensive business HP LaserJet Pro connected via Ethernet to my Studio and it is rock solid. Laser tends to have lower ink costs and better reliability than inkjet at the expense of lower quality.

I also can recommend Brother printers/scanners.
Have a DCP-L2550DW (B&W Laser with 1200x1200 scanner on top).
Uses Brother iPrint and Scan, downloaded from the Apple App Store. Has ethernet & Wi-Fi capability.
The Wi-Fi setting is rather pedantic, but it does work. I prefer the ethernet connection.
It is very economical and fast enough.

I've used Canon, Brother, and & most recently Epson Eco Tank system on all Mac OS systems and thou they all worked great, Epson wins hands down. Over 2-1/2 years with the Epson ET-2760 and yet to have to buy any new cartridges. Yes you might say I don't print that much and you would be right. Still the most economical printer I have ever owned.

Fast forward a few months, I too am in the market for a printer.

I currently have a very very old Canon MP610 which was great but the ink was ridiculously priced. Which good printers can use third party ink that you guys would recommend? I can see above Brother comes recommended. Can I use 3rd party inks for Brother?

For the B&W laser Brother, you can use third party cartridges, but the toner lasts so long it can be rather stressful just worrying about when it will run out. The cartridge the unit comes with is supposedly only half full, but it has lasted well over a year so far! Compared with ink jet printers, the running cost of a B&W laser is much lower. If you need color, that must be a different story altogether.

Thanks David. Which model is yours? There are so many, I just don't know which one to go for. I do though need colour as the kids will be using it a lot.

Check out the color lasers, but I have heard they are rather expensive. No experience here with a color printer and I have heard so many bad stories about the cost of ink for epson and canon inkjets that I would only consider B&W.
Of course, you could always tell your kids that ink costs come out of their allowance, would that encourage them to be more frugal with their printing?

Haha! Thanks David. I should get them to pay for the whole thing as they're the only ones who use it.

I did consider a lazer but they are HUGE!

I've heard good things about the Brother ink jets and also they're supposed to have cheaper ink too. I just don't know what model to go for.

I was looking at this earlier. It looks like it'll do just what I want (or should that be what the brats want), and not too bad a price https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09JWW4V2M?tag=camelcamelcam-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1&language=en_GB

I also found a cheap place for ink cartridges for my old Canon https://www.inkredible.co.uk/canon-...MIgrPir9OMgAMVAb_tCh0YkQIHEAQYASABEgJUJfD_BwE

The only issue is the drivers for the printer do not work for the Mac so all printing has to be via the wife's work laptop.
