I understand that its just HP printers as of right now that can print. Any word on when others will be added.

I have a Canon MP620 wireless printer and I was just wondering if I will be able to use this any time soon. Thanks

Ok this has been discussed in thread over thread over thread.

Only HP e-print printers can print directly from iPad on 4.2.

However, if you wish to print to your current printer no matter what it is, it just has to be setup on your mac and windows pc. Then it works based on printer sharing.

Hope that helps.

4.2 comes out in November.

Im on 4.2 right now, how would I set up printer sharing on my mom's canon printer on windows vista?

Ok I got my Mac to print to the computer. But printer is still not found on the iPad?

For Windows you need to install iTunes 10.1 beta.

For Mac you either need iTunes 10.1 beta or OSX 10.6.5 beta. (Not sure about iTunes 10.1 on 10.6.4 if that works. Definitely 10.6.5 beta works)

That's to print from the iPad?

Yeap. I did it at work from Windows 7 machine. You need to have iTunes 10.1 beta for printer sharing. And the machine must be on the same network. At work I have different subnets for wired and wireless so I had to get my computer a wireless card LOL!

Hope that helps!

Sincerely,
Mel

melman101 speaks the truth, though you only need 10.6.5 on the Mac side.

Just log into your developer account and download either iTunes 10.1 or 10.6.5 from the same page you downloaded 4.2.

If I were to install 10.1 beta on my Win PC, would the PC have to be on at all times?

For printing to work? Yes.

Sigh. So will this Air Print ever work like the HP iPrint app where it finds your HP wifi printer on the same network and sends the print command directly without need to have computer running? I know it works with the new e series but why not with just any wifi printer?

Because not all printers talk the same language.

From what I understand the iPad is supposed to be able to print to any wifi printer that uses a type of email address to receive what is to be printed. It's not an ip, nor a network name or id, but moreso and email address specifically for the printer. So as more manufacturers put out printers that work this way, more printers will work for the direct print on iPad.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

It's a world driven by commerce, and yep, they always want us to spend more.

As for those asking about having to have your pc on in order to print to the other types of printers, this is the case for any computer printing through another computer's printer sharing, it's not an iPad only thing.
