printing issues (only prints outlines, not content)

I have a canon mf227dw laser printer and recently, printing is messed up

The print preview shows what is to be printed but upon actual printing, only the "outlines/boarders" are printed without the actual content.

My work around is to save as an image (png) but this is less than ideal.

I am on the latest mac os and have tried re initializing the printer (in settings and updating drivers)

Anyone have any tips?
