So i've got an Oldish? printer but it works fine, however installing the drivers (tried the supplied ones and the macos generic one) don't give me many options for paper size. As the printer clearly has a slot for small paper sizes (there's a separate slot to feed in small letter sizes and I'm trying to print on A6 photo paper) however MacOS doesn't let me choose that size (just give me random generic letter sizes) and as every application uses the macos printing options even in other applications i can't pick a custom size. I already tried adding a custom size however that option was greyed out for me, with lots of work arounds i managed to add it through word i think? but when going to print it just greys out my custom option i created, so any idea how to fix this? or am i stuck to just going through word and marking an A6 size on that and hoping the printer will print in the correct spot? Never really need to print on macos before so first instance on trying to troubleshoot something like this, any help or advice is appreciated. (Any articles i could find would focus on the custom sizes option which just doesnt work for me for some reason)

According to HP support website, for the Deskjet 450, the last supported driver for the printer was for OS X 10.5. My suggestion would be to try and download the printer driver for Deskjet 460 which is supported for macOS 10.15. Printer manufacturers will use the same printer engines across multiple different printers. The 460 may work for your Deskjet 450 printer.

Well i downloaded the drivers which sort of just disappeared but i then tried to use the selector and added the printer as the 460 series and all the options appeared. So thanks a million wouldn't have thought about one generation to be supported while the other one be left behind for ten years! 😁

Glad it worked for you.
