Printing posters across multiple A4 pages

Does anyone know if it is possible to print a poster so it is larger than A4 (say A3) however print it across a number of A4 sheets? The only applications I currently have are the standard mac apps and office. Any suggestions?
I am sure it is possible but I've no idea how to do it.

It's possible in MS Word. I can't fully remember how though...
