printing problem

Hi,
I have an HP 1012 laser at home. Installed the software and the printer just wouldn't print. I finally got it to print, but I'm not exactly what I did to get it to work. I liked the printer so much I bought one for the office. Hooked it up and it wouldn't work. I had to go into the OSX Printer Utility and in basically rechoose it and reset it up??? I don't understand this. Anyone have any explanation for this???
