Right, I set up the printer just fine and the Mac found it wirelessly. It is a HP PhotoSmart 2575. I can talk to the printer etc, even though the model number isn't available from the drop down list 
When I go into TextEdit and try to just print a page with the word test on, it prints the following:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%RBINumCopies: 1
%%Pages: (atend)
%APL_DSC_Encoding: UTF8
%%Title: (T
Then after that it looks like the page was cut off, and I'm guessing it was going to say (Test Print) and the end as that was the document name.
After it prints that, it proceeds to print loads of blank pages!
