I hope this is the right forum, since its a general discussion and not Mac specific.

Due to rising privacy concerns and data collecting, I noticed many platform/OS developers force you to signup with an email(which requires real phone number usually) or a real phone number like iCloud accounts.

I know that the App Store won't work without an iCloud account (rendering iPad/iPhone useless without even free apps), not sure about Android, I believe Windows 8 pushes you to login with an account, I think Chromecast will NOT work without a Gmail account although there is no need for one. You get the idea... an account or the device will not work.

My question, many people go out of their way to use VPNs and keep their files "offline" but how can we trust Apple with MacOS, or Microsoft Windows, or Android(does it require a login?) ? Can't they just keylog, or track, or view your files on your system since you are logged in they know it is you.

The only platform that does not seem to be affected by this is linux which is open source. No ID or login whatsoever is needed. Am I the only one bothered by this?

At least for Android devices there are alternative ROMs and you can do away with Google services if you're willing to.

Have not used Windows recently except at work (where it's on a domain and I have very little control) so I can't speak about it. At home I already moved to Linux many years ago.

i expect it is some sort of 3rd party service these web sites choose to use.
Sites like NYT are more sophisticated and and let you in for while

"Brave" is a good more closed dark web browser.
a darker search engine DuckDuckGo
