Hi,

I have a friend who's got OS X Lion installed on his Apple machine, but he didn't pay for it. And he's also got some pirated third-party but also Apple software installed.

However, he needs to take his machine to an Apple store to have it repaired -- they told him he would have to supply them with a username & password, so that they can do some software tests.

He is wondering whether he should be concerned in any way, given the piracy issues involved. What do you think?

Thank you.

You basically give Apple full access to your machine when you sign the release of liability they give you at the store. It is possible they could refuse to work on it or detect the unlicensed software on the machine throughout the course of their diagnostics.
