Privacy screens and new MBAs

Hi all - I did some searching and haven't been able to see a solid answer to this question.

I've got the new 13" MBA. I need to put a privacy filter on it for airplane use - but have read lots of posts about horizontal banding visible with the 3M screens on. I definitely see it when I put my old 3M filter from my Thinkpad on - it makes the screen look terrible.

There are also "gold" ones that I haven't tried yet - I'm considering ordering to check it out.

I welcome feedback on any success stories people may have here with any brand.

These covers dim and distort the screen.

I have a 3M layer and you cant notice it at all, there's no lines or anything, but move a few cm from straight on and the screen looks completely black. It's great, I'm completely paranoid about people looking at my screen. I used to have this horrible old 3M thing which slotted on top over the screen which worked but made those 'lines'.

Is there a model for the 3M Layer? Where did you purchase it?
