Do I need to purchase software to truly delete stuff from my computer... or is it something I can do on my own. Also, are products that erase internet history just a waste of money? I have been considering Mireth Tech items - shredit and netshred.

TIA

I am not thinking of apps... but files. as for the browser history... can it be recaptured once it has been deleted?

Disk Utility can securely erase the empty space on your HD (overwrite noise data), so that once you've deleted files and emptied the trash, if you secure erase, then the files become unrecoverable
