I have a 2 month old MB Pro 16" and have not found anything that says there is a difference in the ports on the left and right side. I seemed to be able to charge from any of the ports. If I tried to use a thumb drive, if it 64GB or bigger it will only mount on the left side. Also a USB powered drive will only work on the left side. I assumed it was a power problem. I have a Charger Doctor volt/amp USB meter so I plugged a 128GB thumb drive in to see how much it pulled and it mounted and worked on the right side (or Left) both sides pulled about the same current, very low as expected. I then tried the USB powered drive and it also worked with the volt/amp meter in the circuit but not when removed.
I'm stumped, any ideas what's going on. I have tried different cables, adapters etc.
