Pro apps on an external drive?

Would any of the pro apps (Aperture, Logic, Final Cut, etc...) run any slower if I kept the apps and their libraries on an external USB or FW400/800 drive?

I don't even think it's possible to run Pro apps off anything but the internal drive...

this is what i do for Logic Studio and Pro Tool files. it works fine. i would recommend getting a firewire 800 or eSATA however if you want the maximum speed.
