I’m about to buy a used Apple Pro Display XDR and I would like to know what is the process to add it into my account? It has Applecare+ until 2026. Prior purchase, I will check the serial number in Apple Support and I would like to add it into my Apple ID using the iPhone, to make sure is not associated with another Apple account.

The person who has registered AppleCare currently should call, and either give your information or just remove theirs so you can do so!
I purchased mine from an IT liquidator, who got it as it was taken out of service from a corporate environment. No way to know who the original AppleCare purchaser was.

In that case you may be able to provide a bill of sale, have you called them and asked?

In either case, the AppleCare follows the device. So as long as you can disable any FindMy or device lock (not an issue with the XDR obviously) you will receive Genius Bar service regardless of the name or other details listed for the AppleCare. Changing ownership is mainly about protecting yourself from the previous owner requesting a prorated refund from Apple for the unused amount of the agreement or other such activity.

Well that's exactly it, I want to be sure that the AppleCare plan is in my control. I did call Apple Support but they didn't help much, just advised they can't look up agreement numbers (seems unlikely) and to call back close to expiration to see if I can extend it with a new agreement.

On a separate note, Apple support in my experience is no different than any big corp now. They used to be so helpful anytime I called but the last few times its been a constant stream of getting bounced between departments, disconnected calls, promises of follow up calls and most of the time I end up spending a ton of time for little to no benefit. Like they read from a script and if your issue doesn't match up 100% you're SOL.
