Man total bummer! Done all the troubleshooting steps along with a complete factory reset. Nothing. Completely dead with a black screen. I am aware of that issue as well and can usually be resolved. Not with mine though since it was the hardware. I got mine with in the first week of launch. So did my sister and hers is still going strong. Rang Apple up and they wanted to setup a repair. Considering how new the phone was. I did not want someone tearing into such a new phone. The rep agreed. So, they setup for another brand new replacement. And if I wanted it even faster. I could order another new one and Apple will credit it back once the broken one is received. They even sent me a prepaid shipping label! I had no hardware issues with my launch XS Max that I traded in to Apple for the Pro Max.

its Always good to know that Apple backs their products. I’ve had my pro max for a month. no issues

Agreed. With millions of devices there could be a defect one.
Over the last 10 years with Apple products in the family and work we had one iPhone and iPad in the first month. Replaced with brand new.
One phone with swollen battery after 4 years (out of AppleCare) replaced with refurb.
Original launch day Apple Watch after 2.5 years the back came off: replaced.

OP, while I am sorry to hear about your camera it’s good that you can get a replacement without down time.

This was the first time for me I had hardware failure, with any Apple product. I am glad Apple took care of me. I am sure this was out of the normal to give me a brand new replacement. Return policy I believe is only 14 days.

My heart sank for a moment with the new replacement. After updating to the latest OS. I had the black screen again with the front facing camera. Opening/closing did not help. So, I shutdown the phone and powered back on. Been working perfectly fine since doing that.
