Hi everybody,
I have a question about my pro speakers.
I am a college student that uses a Powerbook G4. I love it very much.
Being a college student, I am not one to spend a lot of money on computer speakers. So when my boss at the campus computer store gave me a set of pro speakers that had been sitting on the shelf for ages, I was very excited. I was aware of the minijack issue, but I thought I might be able to wire the speakers to a standard audio input cable from another older pair of speakers.
So, for those of you who were wondering, here is what's inside of the pro speakers cable:
1 red wire
1 blue wire
1 yellow wire
1 white wire
1 brown (smaller) wire
1 black (smaller) wire
1 white ("grounding?") string
and a lot of thin silver wires
I was able to look through the clear speakers and see that the yellow and red wires go to one and the blue and white go to the other. I could not see where the brown and black ones went, but I figured it would be a pretty easy to figure out from there. When I cut open the standard audio input cable, there was just a left and right side made up of copper wiring. So I attached them together, alternating the brown and black ones several different times. But no matter how I connected the wires, I could not get any sound to come out of the speakers. Am I missing a vital step in all of this? I'm no expert on the wiring of speakers, but I have a general idea of how works. I read this post:

earlier, but I don't think anybody who posted actually went so far as to cut open the wiring. I know there is the firewire adapter, but I really don't want to pay for it if I don't have to. Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch!
Anne
