So far, "Pro Video Formats" version 2.0.1 has installed itself four times on my iMac in the last two days. For some reason, the iMac doesn't seem to know/understand that this software update is already installed.

Suggestions on how I can tell the Mac this was installed?

(I've tried rebooting, etc.)

Thanks,

- m

P.S This update issue is sort of like, but not as bad as, my Windows VM where updates routinely fail for no good reason.

If you have a copy of Pacifist, you can install the package with that and it will stop software update from thinking it's not installed.

There is no "package" per se as this is being installed directly from the Mac update. I did download Pacifist and did a Search Receipts for "Pro Video Formats", but it didn't find anything.

How would I use Pacifist to help me?

Unclear.

Thanks,

Download the installer package from Apple and then use Pacifist to install it.

There's a discussion on Apple forums about the issue

Interesting. Yes it worked!!! Thank you!!!

I tried to download and just install the DMG without Pacifist, but it didn't work. Pacifist worked perfectly.

Not sure I need to get a license for Pacifist since this type of thing has never happened in many years, but it's a nice utility to know about just in case.

What's really alarming is that a "Mac" install failed like Windows installs often do. Yikes! What's going on here Apple?!

Thanks again!!!

I have the same problem. I started a thread 2 days back too. i have it installed 3 times and it wants to install again. does anyone know exactly where its installing. I want to make sure that I dont have this installed 3x on my mac which i think it is. I want to delete the multiple installs

It's not installed 3 times. The update is just replacing the same files over and over.

Worked for me too :)

It's back again. I want to pluck my eyes out when I see this stupid update!

Unbelievable.
Using Pacifist worked for about 3 days.
Now there it is wanting to install again.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

After reading the posts above, I decided to see if that was the case for me as well and sure enough the update came back

I have this problem too, updates repeatedly wanting to be reinstalled...brutal. I have the Pro Video Formats 2.0.1 update showing, and also Final Cut Pro X Supplemental Content 1.0 (which sucks because that one is like 800MB, over and over and over)...

Hope they fix this issue someday.

There is an updated installer released today which solves it. You'll get one more installation and that will fix it.

See above. This is an updated installer that will update one last time.

Ok, installed the newest Pro Video Formats update again today...rebooted, and now it finally doesn't show up for installation again.

The Final Cut Pro X Supplemental Content 1.0 update still shows up...
