The air definitely has a premium feel to it thanks to the titanium and glass sandwich formula. It’s slimmer than the rest of the lineup, but the descriptions people are using are a bit hyperbolic. Is everyone coming from a max sized phone? Maybe I’m less impressed since I’ve used some pretty thin android phones in the past, as well.

For some context, I upgrade to the new phone every year like a dedicated lamb. Yesterday, I was ready to jump ship from the pros and get an air, but it didn’t blow me away like I thought it might. Place the pro next to the air, and yes, the pro is the chunky, significantly less attractive friend with a build like a fridge. But the pro is full of features (including stereo sound) and snacks to satisfy you. From setup to gaming, the phone has only been mildly warm, which is incredible and arguably more impressive than a thinner form factor. Coming from the 16 pro, which is like a piece of art, the aluminum unibody feels…functional. While it’s not lighter, the materials give the impression of less heft and the phone is nice to hold. This year, it’s function over form, and the features are worth it. 8x optical quality zoom and OIS on all the lenses—yes, give it to me. I'm not even an intense professional who edits media in post, but the built in features are easy enough to fiddle with.

Some random observations…

The raised platypus on the back does make the phone wobble less. In some lighting conditions, the silver pro looks like it has a random white sticker on the back. Otherwise it looks decent and I would pick it again. The orange is nice and has some copper tones at certain angles. I was tempted but felt like the color could be a bit distracting to have around all of the time. More power to those who pick it up. Pro tip, don't erase your current eSIM and old phone until the new one is activated. Otherwise you'll be forced to call and talk to your carrier for an hour and speak to some disgruntled employee in an outsourced call center, who asks a laundry list of verification questions that he may just as likely use to scam you and open various lines of credit. Cheers.

Well, I did the opposite of some people. I have joined the dark side and swapped the pro for an Air. Damn Apple for making the 17 pro out of recycled iPhone 6 scraps. I'm happy haha. Enjoy your phones. :D

All depends on your use case. I personally am not a fan of large screens, thick phones, or protruding cameras. But alas. Apple leaves no choice for me. Of the options, I chose the air because it did feel the most premium and would offer me a different experience than before. Going to the iPhoneX was a huge moment for me, but since then, no new releases have felt special. The iPhone air was that new introduction, holding the air and how I use it is just amazing. But obviously there are sacrifices to a better experience. And those are the questions you have to ask yourself and what you value more.

I think my biggest misses will be the telephoto lens and the lidar sensors, as I used those quite a bit for work. The battery life on the air is no worse than the 16 pro, so no loss for me. The speaker is worse, but also I never use it, I’m always on AirPods. So that kind of turns the question back to you. The iPhone air has compromises, and that is expected due to the form factor. But you need to ask what is important for you. Anxiety for a charge throughout the day? Heavy photography? Maybe consider the 17 pro or pro max. iPhone air if you’d like a new experience, and the downgrades it provides doesn’t actually make your day to day life worse. The iPhone 17 if you’re price conscious and still want most of the great features to get you through.

It basically becomes a question of practicality, all will most likely work on a day to day life, but which one would provide benefit where you are lacking today?

Well, I gave up practicality and traded in wifey for air headed supermodel whose sole redeeming quality is slim sexiness. She won't support me emotionally or spiritually, but we're gonna have some freaky times over the next year.

Bought a 17 Pro Max and Air.

I know what to expect from the Pro Max, since I've had them all, so I've activated the Air and will use it for 1-2 weeks to see if its form factor is worth losing some "pro" features over.

As much as I love the Air so far, I'm still undecided.

Idk now. 50.01/49.99 in favor of the pro maybe..

Let’s say you’ve been using the Air for a year, would you go to a chunkier and uglier form factor to gain a number of features? To get a fully featured camera system, stereo sound, and better battery life. Probably. Whoever approved the smaller, janky mono speaker needs to be flogged. Maybe I’ll grow to appreciate the pro’s aluminum iPhone 5C body style. I should’ve avoided even looking at the Air. First world problems haha.

Edit: also super interesting that most people answered Air for the poll

I bought the Air, but am still on the fence about keeping it. I love, love, love the form factor, but the camera might end up being a dealbreaker for me.

I chose the boring phone. The 17 Pro. I think it's even more boring than the 17. Wanted to love the Air so much. I gave everything from the depths of my heart. Our relationship would have had no future. I hate sensible decisions.

I’m also having a hard time deciding between the Air and 17 pro im so torn my heart says Air but my head says pro.

Right now I’m leaning more towards the pro
Same situation and same exact feelings.

It’s like the MacBook Air vs the MacBook Pro.
THe Mac decision was easy for me - I need to run Parallels with Windows and I need multiple ports. I also find the larger screen works for me to allow side by side documents when not with a monitor.

I do use my iPad Pro mostly at home.
Fancy cameras won't fix my terrible photo skills and I never bothered to learn how to use the different photo features.

While I'm waiting for my pre-order ('lost' in UPS, under investigation), I'll consider whether to return the pre max for an Air... or not. I'll continue to follow the perspectives of you all.
For one year, I might go Air.

I did go to the store and every time I picked up the Max Pro is just felt so heavy. Now my current Max Pro phone does too.

From 15 PM to Air and 100% happy with the decision. None of the less than Pro specs affect me and having a front pocket phone again is great. I hated walking around with a phone in my back pocket. And by being in my front pocket, I don't need to pull it out and set it on the desk/table where the phobne intrudes into conversations. Even while not in use, a phone in site can change the dynamics of conversation.

im in this same situation i have both the pro max and the air but have to return one soon and im having a hard time

You gave everything you had? What, in 3 days??!
