Here’s Dell’s 8K 32” at around $4,000:

Currently, it seems like it’s not working in macOS, but a few communities (egpu, insanelymac) seem intent on a manual fix.

egpu:

InsanelyMac: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/up3218k-only-runs-at-4k.242444/

Should be a viable alternative for those intent on using the XDR as a desktop monitor (and not a reference display).

Doesn't make that much sense for macOS usage because its PPI (275) isn't close to a multiple of 110.

Doesn't matter much. That was due to the fact that Retina initially used 2x scaling. However, non-integer scaling was always supported, and since 2016, it's been the default.

The fact is that when DPI is so high, scaling artifacts are difficult to notice. (Just like how nobody complains about the Pentile display on the OLED iPhones)

Don't know about you, but if I were spending many thousands just for a monitor, I'd want to end up with pixel perfection, not simply good enough.

At a 2x scale it would provide an effective 4k worth of desktop resolution without any non-integer scaling issues...at 32" I'd presume the UI elements and text would be plenty large for normal use, wondering if anyone here has had the chance to use one?

This monitor has also been as low as $2,800 on sale in the past I believe, its certainly an interesting alternative for those with a priority on usable workspace. But if there is no support coming in Catalina this is all moot.

Normal 1:1 4K at 32" needs good eyesight as the UI elements are physically rather small. I ran a BenQ with that spec for a while. The extra sharpness of 8K HiDPI "Looks Like 4K" would help a bit though.

I see these borderline acceptable DPIs as a bit like buying shoes that are the wrong size. I mean, one can power through and kinda make them work, but it's never going to be pleasant like simply wearing the correct size shoe is. MacOS's shoe size is 110/220 😃

Nobody has found a way to get this working on Mac OS still? Would love to have this. Far more resolution than 6k!
