Typing this on a late 2013 MBP.
Bought a 13" replacement a year ago. Changed mind, returned it.

Have a Yoga and a XPS 15" as well. I find myself always coming back to my late 2013...it's fully speced, tb SSD, 16 gb, etc.

Anyhow, fast forward post WWDC. Do I buy a 16" replacement today or wait. I feel like my late 2013 , albit no issues, I'd rather be proactive than -reactive-, if, when this thing conks out

There will be a lot of growing pains with this transition to ARM Macs. If you're using this laptop for work or other pretty important purposes, I'd upgrade now. Of course, it does depend on what you do on your computer, but all else being equal I'd upgrade now and let Apple work out the kinks in the next couple of years before upgrading. It's not like Apple is just going to stop supporting Intel Macs. And developers probably aren't going to just ignore the huge install base of Intel Macs in the world.

I'd keep using it while it serves your purposes. There's no way to tell when a computer will fail. When it is running fine.

If it does fail before it's useful life is out. You've got other computers to tide you over until the replacement comes in.

I don’t understand the purpose of upgrading before you need to.

Assuming your data is always backed up and managed, if your computer dies you can just get another one the same day or the next day, load it back up, and be good to go.

With technology, the longer you wait the better your options will be. If your computer doesnt end up dying for another year or two then you will be able to upgrade to the best avaliable choices or even an Apple silicon machine.

If your computer dies in 6 months then you can get whatever is available at that time, and if upgrades already are released for intel Macs whatever Mac you planned to buy today would be cheaper in 6 months.

I don’t see any benefits to “proactively” buying a new computer if you are happy with the way your current one works.
