i'm messing around with geektool and trying to get it to display the date on my desktop, and it's coming out like this

"Sun Aug 28 18:20:48 EDT 2011"

how do i change the format to

"Sunday, August 28 18:20:48 EDT 2011"

or something similar (i really just want the day of the week and month to be in full, not shorthand)

it does this on my menu bar as well... so i know it's something in my system preferences but i've tried messing around with my international settings to no avail.

i have snow leopard, by the way.

thanks in advance!

Rather than changing your system settings, try using this as the geeklet:

Code:
date +"%A, %B %d %H:%M:%S EDT %Y"

There's probably a better way to get the "EDT" to show up, but you'll just have to remember to change it to EST later.
