I don't know what's wrong.

Here's the problem.

I had been using a 500G usb hard drive (let's called it XXX) as my Time Machine backup disk and everything had been fine, until one day my Mac suddenly failed to recognize XXX.

The disk utility would not even show XXX, but the data light on XXX indicated that it was connected to a computer normally. Bizarre!

I had Windows 7 installed on my MacBool Pro's bootcamp partition (not using Parallel Desktop or VMWare Fusion, just Bootcamp 3) and the weird thing is: the Windows 7 could mount XXX! I could browse the folders and files in it (read only). Thus, I guess I could rule out hardware problems of XXX and my MacBook Pro.

Any other external flash or hard drive seems ok, except XXX! It seems like my OS X had blacklisted XXX

How could this happen!

My MacBook Pro is
MacBookPro3,1
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz
3G 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

System is
Mac OS X 10.6.6

The problem actually happened during 10.6.5 and the recent update to 10.6.6 seems not helpful at all.

If anyone could figure it out!
Thanks!
