I recently purchased a second Apple watch. a series 10. When I try to add it to my Mac in settings in Touch ID and passcodes I switch it on and it asks for my password which I enter. I close the settings and open them again and it is shut off. My other Apple Watch series 9 works fine. Not sure what the problem might be

Are both watches on at the same time?

If so, try turning one off, and see if that makes a difference.

It can also be affected if you have multiple Apple Watches paired to an iPhone and don’t have automatic switching enabled.

Ensure that only one Apple Watch is on your wrist at a time and that it’s connected to your iPhone.

OP, are you using the unlock Mac with Apple Watch feature correctly?
