Hi!

I just bought and returned a Verbatim 2TB USB hard drive. When attached to my 2007 24" alu iMac the computer wouldn't start and left me with a grey screen. This happened even if the hard drive was switched off.

I also cloned (using Carbon Copy Cloner) my internal hard drive onto this disk as a preparation for upgrading to Lion. This way I can boot a Snow Leopard system in case one of my critical programs wouldn't work properly under Lion. The clone did not boot! I could choose the drive as my Startup Disk but it would not boot. And it didn't show up as an option when I held down the alt-key on start up.

In the FAQ for Carbon Copy Cloner (http://help.bombich.com/kb/troubleshooting/what-makes-a-volume-bootable) it is stated that booting from an USB hard drive is not always possible due to the hard drive enclosure.

Can anyone of you guys recommend a 1-2 TB USB hard drive which can boot Mac OSX? Does anybody know if Western Digital's My Book Essential 2TB will do the trick?

Thanks
/daniel
