Problem booting ML install on Macbook Pro?

Early 2008 Macbook Pro. Running windows solely.

I tried restoring my purchased copy of ML to an external drive and boot holding option key.

EFI Boot is the only other option that shows up.

What am I doing wrong?

This is really perplexing me.

I was fixing a buddy's Mac he just got from some guy in exchange for his XBox 360.

The guy who had it before him had Windows running on bootcamp, and there was an OS X partition that wouldn't show up on the firmware. He gave him this hackintosh boot disk with the computer.

I concluded that the guy before him tried installing a hackintosh modified OS X, because the computer came with a boot disk for hackintosh.

The computer wouldn't even read the snow leopard disk I put in it.

Does this sound similar to anyone? Could anyone give me advice?
