I'm getting very frustrated with connecting to wireless networks.

The first problem was with my home network, which is run by my landlord, so I don't have access to the router or modem. It was a WPA personal network which had some security setting that required the landlord to put in my IP address. I could connect sometimes when he reset the router for me, but it wouldn't last long. He gave me a 20 foot ethernet cable to use instead. I was fine with that.

Now at work, I'm trying to connect to a WEP wireless network with a Linksys router and dsl modem. My airport settings always say I have a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. I did a little research and attempted to assign a static IP, which I think I did successfully, but still no internet. I can connect to the network just fine, but no internet.

For some reason, I cannot get to the website to change the router settings http://192.168.1.1/ on either my MacBook or the computer that is plugged into the router.

I don't want to have to keep restarting the router to get 3 minutes of internet time. And I'm not the most knowledgeable about these kinds of computer issues. HELP!
