Problem: Digital AV adapter and digital camera

I tried connecting my digital camera (Sony a6000) to my retina MacBook. The link was thus: a6000 -> micro usb to usb-a cable -> digital av adapter -> MacBook.

The camera did not like this at all. It should have gone into mass storage mode but instead gave me an error, saying to check the target device. I never had any issues connecting the camera to my MacBook Air.

Anyone else tried connected their camera to their new MacBook?
