I have a problem downloading 2.0 firmware. It appears as if it has completed the download, but after it shows the total amount of data downloaded (which corresponds to the amount of data that the file is supposed to be) if gives me a message for a connection time out. This is very bizzare. Any help anyone? I searched the forum but did not find anything relevant. Thanks for your help

Thanks for the replies, but do you know what might be preventing me from downloading it from itunes? I am currently running 1.14.

Thanks

you could try making sure all ipsw files on your pc/mac were deleted and then stick the ipod into recovery mode and click restore....... itunes should (in theory) download the firmware for you to install, you will need iTunes 7.7 for all this as alll earlier versions don't like 2.0

Thank you very much. I will try this. Where are these files stored?

I have mailed apple support too, and await a reply. Will update here so people with similar problems can benefit.

Also, after i restore will it revert to the default (factory) passcode? I do not remember what this is...

you sure you want to download firmware 2.0? it's known to have problems.

Umm, I had something like this happen to me. Try going into

C:/Documents and Setting/YOUR NAME/Application Data (hidden)/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software Updates

See if the 2.0 file is there, or try having the folder open while you download it and see if you can see the file grow.

Dear Psyxologos,

Hi there! I look forward to resolving your issue and answering any questions you may have today. I will work with you to make sure that your issue is resolved to your satisfaction.

I understand that you are receiving a message about connection error 3259 when trying to download your purchases. I know errors can be a bit frustrating sometimes but I assure you we can get this resolved together. I have reposted the 2.0 update to your account. Please try the steps below and then attempt to redownload it.

I have confirmed that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections. Therefore, the issue is likely related to your Internet connection, local network, or computer. I'm happy to provide some information that should help you connect to the iTunes Store again.

Error 3259 is a network timeout error. Sometimes this error can be caused by software on your computer that slows down the network connection. This error can also appear if you are downloading multiple items. I'd like to provide some steps that should help you successfully download your purchases.

It often helps to pause the download and then download items one at a time. These steps will walk you through doing this:

1) Open iTunes.

2) From the Store pull-down menu at the top, choose Check for Purchases.

3) Enter your account name and password, then click Check. Your purchases should begin downloading.

4) Under the STORE section on the left, click Downloads.

5) Click the Pause All button in the lower-right corner. This will temporarily pause all of your downloads.

6) To resume only one of the downloads, click the refresh button that appears to the right of one of the paused downloads.

Certain types of software can affect the way a computer sends and receives information from the Internet. Here are a few examples of these types of software:

- Firewalls
- Web accelerators
- Ad filters
- Virus protection software

If you have any of this kind of software installed on your computer, you will need to configure each of the applications to allow your internet connection to access iTunes freely. For instructions, please refer to the documentation that came with that software, or contact the software's manufacturer. You'll need to configure the software to allow these domains to send and receive data from the Internet freely:

phobos.apple.com
phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net

For assistance in configuring your firewall or accelerator software, you may need to contact the manufacturer or your Internet service provider (ISP). When contacting their support representatives, it may be useful to have the following information:

The following article helps Windows users pinpoint software conflicts that could cause the error:

Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275

Once you have managed to allow access to iTunes through other software, please follow these instructions:

1) Sign out of the iTunes Store.

2) Quit the iTunes application.

3) Restart your computer.

4) Open iTunes.

5) From the Store pull-down menu at the top, choose Check for Purchases (if you're unable to upgrade and are using iTunes 6 or earlier, you'll find this option in the Advanced menu).

If you can't find this option, you can also click this link to do the same thing:

https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/checkForPurchases

6) Enter your account name and password, then click Check. The missing item should begin downloading and appear in your Purchased playlist.

Please note that the iTunes Store cannot investigate every user's connection issue. Apple Discussions are another source of information about iTunes, where everyone from new users to professionals can interact and share their knowledge and experiences. You may find another user with the same operating system or ISP that may be able to help resolve this issue. You can find the iTunes discussions group at:

http://discussions.info.apple.com/itunes

If you are using a dial-up connection, you might consider downloading your purchases over a broadband connection, if you have access to one.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for using iTunes! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,
(the guy's name)

My response

Dear (the guy's name).
thank you for your response. It was very detailed and helpful. I did all you suggested in your guidance email, but to no effect. I attach screenshots (please look at them in sequence one, two, three) that demonstrate my problem.

It is not that I do not get access to itunes store (I can do this perfectly fine) or some software hindering my connection to the store. My computer downloads the file perfectly fine, and THEN I get the error message. I followed your advice

This will temporarily pause all of your downloads

but I was able to only reach step three. At that point there was no purchase starting to download. As a result, there was no downloads section for me to click on the STORE section on the left.

So I went to my ipod's page on my itunes. For -what feels like- the 100th time I received the message that my ipod was running an old version of software (1.1.4) and I should download 2.0.

So I start downloading again, and after the download shows as completed (got all 222.6MB of it) I get what you see in the screenshot 'one'

So I go to Store---> Check for Purchases and get what you see on screenshot 'two'

Going back to my ipod's page on itunes, I get what you see on screenshot 'three'

Please can you file a refund request for my £5.99, I am getting really fed up with this problem. I think I will wait untill 2.1 comes out and try and upgrade then.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Once again, thanks for your help.
