I recently paid Costco to transfer 5 VHS tapes of old home movie footage to DVDs. A lot of this footage went back to 1947 or so (previously converted from movie film). I next wanted to digitize the DVDs and have them available to watch via computer or my Apple TV. I was able to encode 4 of the 5 videos without a problem using Handbrake, but I have been unsuccessful trying to convert the last one. In each case I've used the latest version of the program utilizing the Apple Universal default setting.

I've been saving the encoded files to my desktop where I can get at them easily. The problem DVD appears to work (it takes several hours, just like all the others to encode), but when complete I don't get a "movie" image-still icon like I did with all the others. Instead I just get a generic MPEG 4 iTunes icon image. When I try and click on it or try and add it to iTunes, the hard-drive whirls for awhile but then nothing happens. If I try and add the file to iTunes via drag-and-drop, the same thing happens but the movie does not transfer into iTunes.

I'm stumped because all of the other 4 DVDs worked perfectly!

After reading the forums a bit I learned that I should check the "enable large files" setting, which I did with great hope, but unfortunately that didn't work either (I got the same result).

I know that this DVD is not copy-protected because it is home movie footage.... Of course I watched the DVD on my computer to be sure that it is not damaged, and while I have not watched the full 2:04 hour film footage yet, from the samplings that I have seen it appears to work perfectly.

Do you have any additional suggestions for me to try? Is there a setting I should change, or a different program to try?

Thanks so much for any suggestions that you may have!
