never used a chromecast before but one of the guests in the hotel I work in wanted one so we picked up one and tried to get it to work.
the hotel wifi is now simple with no passwords or anything. his android tablet worked fine connecting to it. I went into chromecast.com/setup and it lead me to install google home. plugged the cast into the hdmi, came up on tv fine, plugged it into the tv usb socket for power all good. the google home app found it okay, and said it had to install an update to the chromecast which would take 3 or 4 minutes.
then the chromecast said the update was installed and it was good to go. but the app on the tablet still said it was installing. so after another 5 minutes I closed the app and reopened it, still said installing. so I restarted the tablet and opened the app. it listed the tv as being linked, but when I tried to cast to it it said no compatible devices.
so I unlinked it thinking it would allow me to start again, but now it cant see the device. the device happily comes up on the tv that its working fine and I can cast to it despite the google home app not seeing the device at all, either to cast to it or to relink it.
tried on my iPhone, google home, add device. tells me to move my iPhone near to the device, press home, go into wifi and ill see the chromecast sharing its built in wifi. but theres nothing there.
