I was trying to post on Apple support but can't actually find my way around their site well so thought I'll post here too!

I've got a 15.4" Santa Rosa 2.2ghz 2gb ram MacBook Pro, and I've just bought some of the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks from Amazon for £100ish.

I know someone who's also got some, and they work really well, good sound and look great - ideal for what I want when I move out to Uni in a few weeks. My friends however are the USB older version, not the 3.5mm headphone jack ones.

When they arrived I unpacked them, they looked beautiful, made sure to hook everything up okay, (Pods in to the sub, power into the sub, sub into the computer, then turn it on). I turned bass all the way up on the sub, iTunes up all the way and System sound all the way up to full, expecting some kind of earth quake, however, the pen on the desk above the sub wouldn't even move it was so pathetic.

I don't have overly high expectations of these but I KNOW there is either a problem with the speakers, or my MBP, and as I've tried them on a friends MAcBook with the same pathetic results I'm guessing it's either a Mac laptop problem or a speaker problem.

Has anyone else has anything like this? They're being returned to Amazon today by DHL courier and I put that their performance wasn't as expected, so they're paying for the courier.

If anyone could recommend any other speakers which are compatible with my MBP and which are loud and clear quality I'll happily look into them. I've got approx £150 to spend max (~$300) but would like to order from a UK shop, not US.

Thanks for any help you can give,

Nick.
