I'm using Mail in OS X to get my mail from my Gmail account (IMAP) but now, this error is popping up all the time.

Things you might want to know:
two things I did before the problem was occurring:
1) added some RSS feeds in Mail (for the first time)
2) installed a plug-in in Mail (also for the first time) ... this plug-in is called Notification.

Try uninstalling the plugin, but this looks like a GMail server problem - "too many simultaneous connections" is usually an error returned from a server when too many people are trying to connect. It'll likely clear up eventually.

Your RSS feeds wouldn't go through the GMail server so I wouldn't worry about them.

I've found GMail to be very flakey recently - nearly every day, I get unable to authenticate errors. The problems eventually resolve themselves if I wait.

Edit: Actually, it might be your problem - http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=97150&topic=12816 - are you connecting through multiple computers/iPhone etc? Oddly enough, I've never had this issue although I usually have simultaneous access to GMail from Thunderbird at work, Mail at home, and Mail on my iPhone.
