Problem installing new hard drive

My momentus xt came in the mail today so I just popped it into my mb. I am doing a clean Install so I booted from the recovery DVD. It took several minutes for the installer screen to pop up and now it's asking which drive to install osx to, but it's currently showing no available hard drive. I checked the sata connection and it's secure. I'm pretty stumped.

Go into disk utility and format the drive as HFS+, then retry

You need to format the HDD first via Disk Utility. Use Mac OS Extended as format (file system) and the next time you will be able to see the new HDD and install Mac OS X onto.
