Problem moving Photo's into iPhoto

I am taking photo's off of a Hard Drive and putting them on my Macbook to organize them. Some of the photos I can copy right into iPhoto but some are not because the are missing "metadata".... anyone have any tips? I am able to successfully move them to a File folder I named Photos on my desktop. Thanks
