searched here and the web and couldn't find a good answer to this question.

my external drive (2tb Seagate) I use as my time machine backup drive, was no longer mounting... so I went to use dick utility and repair it

in the details section it states the repair is done... it now says "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required"

it does not indicate how long this will take and it had been over an hour since this last message occurred. if I try to quit the program it says the drive may become inoperable.

I'm at a loss, I've repaired disks before and never had this happen, I would just exit out but I don't want to cause a major problems.

I have an iMac running 10.6.8 and my HDD is a 2TB ac powered desktop Seagate drive.

thanks

*edit*
I dumped out of it and it still says it needs to be repaired I tried to just erase and start from scratch, but it gets stuck trying to unmount the drive. is the HDD just dead? I don't know what else to do
