Hi all,
Can anyone help on this one? I purchased a beat-up Powerbook Ti 800 for my daughter on ebay. It stated that the screen did not work and that it had a broken hinge, but I figured I'll hook it up to an external monitor. When it arrived I plugged it in and the screen did work but the pixels jump around and create wierd patterns. This also happens when connected and miirored to an external monitor. I decide to take it apart all the way down to pulling out the motherboard and see if I see anything that looked out of place. I saw nothing so I reassembled everything. Rebooted and everything worked great...for about 5 minutes, then the screen started doing the same thing. It I tapped on the casing the screen would sometimes correct itself for a few minutes. This worked for a while but progressively it just went to the jumping patterns permanently. I did notice that the date and time had to be reset after every 3 or 4 reboots. I decided to take it apart again today - this time only pulling out the HD and superdive (along with the connected modem, inverter and disconnecting the PRAM battery. I reassembled everything and it worked fine again...for about 5 minutes! Anyone have a clue of what it may be? Initially I thought that it has a bad VRAM or another logic board problem. Now, I'm thinking either a bad inverter or bad PRAM battery. Is there anyway of knowing without spending an arm and a leg? The Powerbook is in pretty bad shape to justify my taking it to a techie. Please help - Thanks
