Problem sending SMS from UK to US Number - 3G Officially unlocked

I'm having issues sending an SMS's to a USA number from my UK based 3iPhone 3G (officially unlocked).

I've tried all number formats - +1, 001 etc but no luck - all I get is 'Message failed' etc. I can send an SMS to an Irish number +353 with no problems.

I am running 3.0 beta 4 - would this cause any issues?

Has anyone else had this issue? It seems odd that it's just happening to USA numbers!!!

Any ideas!?

Just tried it now to my friend in California. No problems.
o2 payG to w/e network he's on.

format was +1(408)XXX-XXX
408 being the area code and +1 for america.

Are you using a 3.0 handset? I've tried the format suggested but to no avail! It would interesting to see if it is just the Beta software. I seem to recall I sent a sms to the US before and it worked fine!!

Does anyone else have any ideas why this might be happening? I've reset my Network Settings on the phone but to no avail. I've tried 3 numbers that I know to work in the US. Would this be something to do with how the number I'm sending to is setup?
