Problem syncing documents with iCloud and macbook air

So iCloud is set up on my iPhone, iPad, and Macbook air. I can create a document on pages on either iOS device and it shows up on the other an online at iCloud.com. I can't access the documents on iCloud from my macbook air unless I go to the website and download it. If I download it to my documents folder and edit the document it does not update in iCloud. How is this supposed to work? I am running 10.7.2 and "Documents and Data" is checked in iCloud under settings.

There has not yet been an update for iWork that is iCloud aware.

I'm guessing we have to wait for the next software update to get this working.
