Problem syncing music to ipad

I turned off itunes match on my ipad, but still have it in use on the Mac. I just wanted to sync Artists and Playlists the old fashioned way. I ended up with the smart playlists (ie. Recently Added, 90's Music, etc.) still showing under playlists on the ipad and several random albums that I didn't have checked in the sync window showing up on the ipad. I must have had something like "fill in extra space with random music" checked. I'll try again.
