Problem transferring songs form osx to ios

hi ,
I was trying to transfer songs from osx yosemite to ios 9.1 via USB ....Somehow i am not able to transfer any songs which is there on my macbook to my iphone .... it asks me to add it on the icloud but when i try upload ing it on icould it doesn't work either .... i cant understand why am i not able to add songs to my ios devices via usb .

Are you using iTunes? IOS will only sync to iTunes playlists or songs you select in iTunes. You need to effectively pair that iTunes to that iPhone, and no other iTunes can sync to it without wiping the phone.
