Problem updating and jailbreaking 4.2.3

Hi, I am currently running on 4.1 jailbroken using greenpoison, I wish to update as some apps I want won't run on 4.1 but am having a few problems (I have a g4 ppc mac running on leopard and iTunes 10.2) when trying to restore I get the error "could not create back up for this iPhone, please disconnect and try again" this happens however many times I try. Also I have downloaded redsnow rc14 but the application icon has a cross through it and when I click it I get the error "not compatable with this architecture" any help would be much appreciated" thank you, jake
