problem upgrading to ios 6?

on wednesday, I successfully updates my 4s to ios 6. however, my friend had his 4 completely screwed up in that his phone was stuck on the apple symbol for the whole night. Today I tried to update my ipad 2 and after it finished downloading the software are started to reboot, it went to the connect to itunes picture. When i plugged it into my computer it said the ipad was in recovery mode and needed to be restored. anyone else have this issue?
