So I have an .avi file that I'm trying to edit in FCP, but every time I import it it tells me the codec is not supported and to reencode it. So I use the FCP recompression to encode it into ProRess 422 and it still doesnt like it. And I use 3rd party software to recompress it (Any Video Converter, Compressor, DivX Converter, VLC Encoder) and the video always comes up just a white box. I cant figure out what codec it is because when I try to open it in quicktime to see the properties QT tells me that it cant open that file! What can I do?

ok so its an M-Peg4 (XVID) codec.
my old roommate shared the video through our network when we lived together, its an episode of its always sunny in philadelphia.
