Problem viewing graphic styles in Illustrator

Am using Ilustrator CS.
When I try to use the Graphic Styles - Such as Textures, they won't preview correctly on the screen - they are just like solid fills.
Could not find answer in the book.
It used to work.
Any help is appreciated.
